Published 07/16/2018

Auxiliary Fashion Show CommitteeThe South County Hospital Auxiliary hosted its Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon on Wednesday, June 27 at the Dunes Club in Narragansett with more than 350 people in attendance. The event raised over $40,000 for South County Hospital, of which, the Auxiliary has committed $20,000 to funding the new daVinci Xi Surgical System. The proceeds in total represent a 50 percent increase in funds raised over the 2017 show.

The day included boutique shopping, a silent auction, and a fashion show. The 12 models, all of whom are friends or patients of South County Hospital, shared their stories and experiences with the Hospital during the Runway Show.

Rebecca HubbardOne of the models, Rebecca Hubbard, is a current and ongoing patient in the Cancer Infusion Lab which she visits every eight weeks for infusions for Ulcerative Colitis. A South Kingstown resident, Rebecca grew up in Wakefield and was born at South County Hospital.

“My experience as a patient in infusion is always welcoming and humbling. I meet new people every eight weeks and leave each session with a different perspective on life,” said Rebecca. “Sometimes it can be very difficult to see people suffer in the cancer unit, but sometimes it can be triumphant.”

Pat Williams Dernavich of Narragansett was honored for her more than 15-year stead as volunteer Fashion Show event chairman.

“This hospital is so vital to South County and it is so important that our community rallies behind them to ensure they can care for us for many years to come,” said Dernavich. “I am so proud of the work that this event committee has put in over the past few months to make this such a resounding success.”

Styles for the show were provided by Cathy Gorham of Seaside Style located on Main Street in Wakefield.
